My struggle with the education system. begins at Highlands elementary, where I stayed until grade 5. I spent everyday reading at the back of the class, unchallenged and unengaged. I’d became withdrawn after intense bullying. I also had struggles with ADHD, which left me alternating between excitement at new information and immense boredom and distraction in a classroom that only let kids progress at one speed. The school system was unable to help with either of these problems. They didn’t have the resources or expertise. My parents felt they had no choice but to try a smaller private school at the time.

But parents shouldn’t have to look away from public schools to find support for their children. Our schools should be able to support students with various needs and interests to get to where they need to go. To make sure they get the opportunities and education they need to thrive after graduation. That’s our job as School Board Trustees, and I’m determined to provide perspective and guidance on the board as the only candidate who’s been in the system in the last two decades.
