Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
Bridget Burns is a renter and former hospitality worker and community organizer who knows firsthand how hard it is to make a life in Vancouver. She’s running for City Council to fight for affordable homes, strong neighbourhoods and a City Hall that works for the people.

Bridget Burns is running for Vancouver City Council because she believes the people who keep this city running deserve the opportunity to build a life here too.

Raised in East Vancouver by a single mother, Bridget experienced firsthand the difference that public investment can make. Affordable childcare, strong public services, and neighbourhood programs gave her family the stability and opportunity they needed. Those investments helped shape her future, and she believes every family deserves the same chance to succeed.

As a renter, Bridget understands the growing pressure facing people across Vancouver. She knows what it's like to spend most of her income on housing and to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. Like so many others, she's seen how increasingly difficult it has become to build a future in the city she loves.

Bridget has built her career in hospitality, working as a server, bartender, host, and event organizer in restaurants, bars, and venues across Vancouver. She has organized festivals, markets, and pop-up events, giving her firsthand experience navigating City Hall and working alongside local businesses, artists, and community organizations. Those experiences have given her a practical understanding of the challenges facing workers, entrepreneurs, and neighbourhoods throughout the city.

She believes City Hall should put people first by treating housing as a human right, expanding non-market and co-op housing, strengthening protections for renters, creating complete neighbourhoods, investing in reliable transit, preparing for climate change, and building safe, welcoming communities. She also believes City Hall should be a partner to local businesses and community organizers, helping them succeed rather than creating unnecessary barriers.

Bridget is running to help build a Vancouver that is affordable, connected, and inclusive, and to build a city where people can not only afford to live, but have the opportunity to put down roots, contribute to their communities, and thrive.

Because the people who make Vancouver work deserve a city they can afford to call home.
