I know the people in my district, many of whom have come to me for optometric eye care for over 25 years, and I know the challenges that they face. I can tell you that the top issues for those in my riding are: inflation, housing costs and transportation infrastructure.
We need either LRT (Light rail transport) or an express bus lane to go from downtown Victoria to Colwood and out to Sooke. This will take cars off the road that contribute to grid lock on Sooke Road during the morning and evening commutes. The federal government contributes to inflation by spending more than it takes in in tax revenue. We need to eliminate deficit spending that drives up inflation and our federal debt. We can reduce the cost of housing by putting a pause on immigration for the next 3-5 years. Five hundred thousand immigrants came to Canada in 2024. That is too many people for Canada to try to house when we can't build homes fast enough to house the people who are already here! We need to build more coop housing in Victoria and the Westshore. It is estimated that monthly housing fees are $400 to $500 dollars per month less in coop housing than in traditional rental housing units.
While I want to work on things like improving transportation infrastructure in our riding, I decided to get into politics because I have grandchildren. I want them to thrive. One of the biggest challenges for kids today is the digital world. While spending time online is unavoidable, we have to make the internet a safer place for minors. So, my biggest priority in my quest for getting elected is to work on protecting children and minors from online predators and exposure to digital pornography.
In conclusion, the Christian Heritage Party is the best party to run Canada because it understands that the traditional nuclear family is the backbone of our society. When this building block of our civilization is allowed to thrive, our country will grow stronger.
