I voted against the first data centre rezoning because I could not get information about the energy and water it would use or the noise it would make.
I will carefully review all the evidence for any proposals for data centres that come to council before making a decision.
I would only support a data centre that has conservation measures for water and energy use and which stores data for data sovereignty purposes to protect Canadian data from foreign governments and foreign corporations.
I will not support any proposals for AI data centres until the technology is properly regulated.
Business Permitting
I have voted to speed up building permits when I was on council.
I will continue to seek ways to speed up the permitting process.
Economic Growth
I have voted to increase the industrial land base by supporting the Sandstone rezoning.
I will work to promote clean non-polluting industry, biotech, marine tech and manufacturing.
I will support any projects for value added wood manufacturing to increase forest industry jobs.
I will encourage the growth of advanced manufacturing and industrial technology sectors
Government Procurement
I support local procurement where possible.
I support ethical procurement policies.
Jobs for young people
I will support clean industries that provide jobs for young people.
I have supported and will continue to support the expansion of our hospital to create more health care jobs.
I will work to ensure affordability for the local workforce through the creation of affordable workforce housing in different parts of the community.
Small Businesses
I will work to create the conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises to thrive.
I will work to speed up the permit process for business renovations and expansions.
Tourism
I will support Tourism Nanaimo initiatives that grow the tourism economy.
I will support arts and culture events and festivals that draw tourists to Nanaimo
I will work to get 1 Port Drive developed with a arts and culture focus on the waterfront section to attract tourists.

I’m a City Councillor seeking re-election and a former Member of Parliament. I have 35 years of independent business experience. I have non-profit experience as a manager, executive director and board director. I’m the 3rd generation of my family living in the region.
