Dustin Griffin

Independent for Vernon Council
Over the last number of years the City has taken on large projects which will benefit the community for years, but it's time to focus on the fundamentals. We're all facing increasing costs of living so we should focus our resources on maintaining our existing services.

Climate Change, Heat, & Fires

Green Space

Vernon has an amazing number of parks for families and community events, let's focus on maintaining those facilities keeping these spaces active and used by everyone.

Private Vehicles & Parking

If we're going to have a vibrant downtown, people need to live there or be able to get to and from easily. Time to get creative with parking solutions.

Urban Heat

Our public spaces need to be made more user friendly in the summer. Shade sails should be in wider use in our city. At the same time, protect our urban treescape.

Zoning

We need to trust the work done on our official community plan and long term planning objectives. We should stick to zoning as much as possible and avoid sprawl.

Housing & Homelessness

Local Government & Democracy

Budgeting

Increasing property taxes cannot be the first answer to issues around cost. Cost controls, re-evaluation of expenses, and alternative revenue sources all need to be apart of the solution.

Good Governance

Good governance exists in the sunlight. Transparency in decision making and clear lines on conflict of interest should be maintained at all time.

Public Engagement

An ongoing effort. Some of the best community engagement I have seen were the open house events where residents could talk directly to city staff about community projects. Many types of engagement are needed.

Public Spaces & Services

Fitness & Sports Facilities

We've got the big facility underway. We need to ensure our parks and sports fields are maintained and keep options open for different sports and activities.

Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I've been a lawyer with Kidston Helm Ross for over a decade and was fortunate to be able to come home to the North Okanagan to start my career. I'm a long time JCI - Vernon member, volunteer for various local groups, former Co-op board member, and parishioner at St. James.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I am all about community, and people around me have encouraged me to run to share my skills and experience on council. It is something I have wanted to do for a while and now have privilege to be able to commit to the demands of the role.
